PATEA NOTES
S.’HOOL COMMITTEE At the Patea School Committee meeting a letter was received from the Wanganui Education Board notifying that a contract had been let for the cleaning of all school water supply tanks. A further letter from the board declined requests from- the committee for furnishings and outdoor forms. It was decided to ask the board to reconsider its decision with regard to forms for sunshine classes.
The headmaster reported a roll number of 234. The attendance had been affected by measles, mumps and inclement weather, he reported. A penny concert had been held at the school, and £3 6s 4d had been raised for the school fund. Mr. Stretton stated that the recent basketball and football tournaments had proved a great success. The chairman asked Mr. Stretton to convey to the children the appreciation of the committee of their efforts in connection with the games. GIRL GUIDES Mrs. Ramsbottom presided at a meeting of the committee of the Patea Girl Guides. After a lengthy discussion it was left to the secretary to write to the provincial commissioner on matters relating to the work of the guides. The annual meeting of the guides will be held to-night. The movement is steadily growing and a like to obtain a larger committee and membership.
