GRAND NATIONAL HURDLES

C.J.C. ATTRACTION TO-DAY’S ACCEPTANCES AND PROSPECTS The Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting at Riccarton will be advanced a further stage to-day, when the main attraction will be the Grand National Hurdles. The Baufort Steeplechase is the only crosscountry event, but the Islington and August Handicaps promise to be interesting flat events. The field for the Grand National Hurdles has undergone some changes since the first acceptances were taken, and the outlook has changed more than once, with Tuesday’s running tending to alter prospects still further. Erination is better over hurdles than at the steeplechasing game and 10.9 would be a luxurious impost for him. Nevertheless, there arc several lower down that should keep him busy. King Rey ran a great race in the Jumpers' Flat under a heavy weight. Esperance Bay, as winner of the Great Northern Hurdles, is well placed to add to his record. Dividend should improve and The Dozer has proved his ability. Tidewaiter’s success at the Hunt Club meeting should ensure support for the New Plymouth candidate. Pekoe impressed in winning the Jumpers’ Flat and Fundy Bay ran a good race in the Trial Hurdles. The following are likely to be well supported:— Aylesbury Hack Handicap: Kernel, Camphor, True Form. Sumner Hack Handicap: Scarteen, Norse, Kanui Te Pai. Beaufort Steeplechase: Surcoat. Ruling Star. Gay Boa. Woolston Hack Handicap: Ann Mie. Distress Signal. Renarde. Grand National Hurdles: Pekoe. Esperance Bay, Tidewaiter. Spreydon Hurdles: Funday Bay. Night Dress. Cuisinier. Islington Handicap: Boloyna, Gay Parade, Gladynev. August Handicap: Algerian. Saxon Tor. Sceptre. Following is the list of acceptors:— AYLESBURY HACK (Of £3OO : six furlongs.)
