ASTRAL FLAME Steeplechase Winner At Riccarton JUMPERS’ FLAT WON BY PEKOE TREASURER’S WINTER CUP (Press Assn.) Christchurch, Aug. 12. The Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting opened today in fine weather before a large attendance. The track was in good order. The totalisator handled £80.126. compared with £75,434 10s on the first day last year, an increase of £4691 10s. Espionage was destroyed through breaking a leg in a collision with Kurawhi in the preliminary for the Cashmere Plate. The investments on both horses were refunded.
