Wanganui, went to Napier on | Thursday, played various games, and ! went to a social on Friday, returning ito Wanganui on Saturday. The journcy. an annual event for the Inter- : mediate Schools in Wanganui and ; Napier, is valued as a social occasion ■ for the broadening influence it has on the children as a result of the wider contacts they make. Wanganui was left at 6.20 a.m. on Thursday, and in Palmerston North, where the carriages were transferred to the Napier train the mid-day meal was taken and a visit was made to Jhe new’ Intermediate School I here. The train was met by Miss O. M Cook, senior assistant at Ihe Wanganui school last year. Napier was reached at 4.55 p.m., the weather being fine al! the way. The Wanganui children, who were in charge of Messrs. B. O’Connor and T. E. Douds and Miss M. Mothven. were well entertained. Sixty-five were billeted out through the school and 20 by private arrangements. It was the first big trip for many of the children, and the added experience of fitting into now homes made ' a memorable occasion of the visit. Th? I party, and they performed at the social on the Friday night. I The Wanganui boys won the Rugbv i football, but lost the Association foot.- | ball, and the girls lost th bo.-ketball. j A debate was won by Napier by a ! narrow margin. The result of the I games is regarded as the Iw’st imI portant aspect of the visit. I Napier Intermediate School will return lhe visit, next year. The Wanganui party arrived back at 3.50 p.m. on Saturday.
