HOME GUARD ACTIVITY
WEEK-END TRAINING INSTRUCTION IN RIFLE AND PLATOON DRILL. The only units of the Home Guard training over the ■week-end were the Signallers, Engineers Company (Mr. E. A. Marchant) and A Coy (Captain H. M. Keesing, M.C.). Acting Sergeant-Major E. H. Moore, Staff-Sergeant Mitchell, Mr. P. Mete Kingi, of the School of Instruction, visited Paparangi on Sunday. There was an excellent parade. Seme men came 14 miles to attend. Instruction in rifle and platoon drill, wiring and grenades took up one-half of the training programme, which concluded with a tact'cal scheme adapted to the area, and was carried out satisfactorily. Staff-Sergeants A. Mitenell and E. J. Appleton went to Jerusalem on Saturday and had a good parade of officers and n.c.o.’s from the up-river company. Musketry, grenades and company drill were subjects of instruction.
Tht response of .-ountty Home Guardsmen is very tnrouraging, attendances being on a good average compared with strength. Mr. F. 1-ai-mer. Transport Section, was driver for instructors.
