DISTINGUISHED FLYING MEDAL
AWARDED TO TWO MORE NEW ZEALANDERS SKILL AND DEVOTION TO DUTY (Press Assn.) Wellington Aug. 11. Official advice has been received by Air Headquarters, Wellington, that two more New Zealand airmen serving overseas have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. They arc: Sergeant William Jack Scott; mother, Mrs. G. A. Scott, Mangataparu, Morrinsville. Sergeant Reginald Joseph Cowan Grant; sister, Miss Vera Grant, Ponsonby Club Hotel, Auckland. The citations accompanying the awards state: “Sergeant Grant has taken part in 22 operation’s over enemy territory during which he has destroyed two enemy aircraft and damaged several others. His keenness and devotion to duty have set an excellent example.’’ "An R.A.F. pilot and Sergeant W. J. Scott, as pilot and air gunner respectively. have achieved conspicuous success during night fighting operations. One night in April, 1941, a Heinkel 111 was encountered and destroyed, and since then a further three enemy aircralt have been destroyed, ot which two were shot down during the same patrol. During these operations both pilot and sergeant have displayed great skill and determination.”
