BALKAN REVOLT

GAINING IN IMPETUS UNREST IS WIDESPREAD FOOD IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA ALMOST UNPROCURABLE (Recd. 7.40 p.m.) London, Aug. 10. The Balkan invaders are seriously perturbed at the revolt movement, which is gaining impetus daily, especially in Yugoslavia, says The 'l'imes’ Istanbul correspondent, who adds: “Since the German attack on Russia the Germans and their satellites are calling any Balkan peoples who fight for their freedom Comi;iunists. Over 800 Yugoslavs have been imprisoned at Bratislava in the last four weeks, on the grounds that they are Communists.’’ The Creation and Hungarian Governments were compelled to send forces against the Tchetchniks, who are mountain guerrilla bands in Montenegro, carrying out raid’s against isolated outposts, destroying harvests and sabotaging railways and telegraphs. Their elusiveness is making repression difficult. Increasing number, including former officers of the Yugoslav army, are escaping to the mountains and joining the Tchetchniks. The greater part of the harvest in Greek Thrace was destroyed by tire. Dalmation patriots refuse to recognise the Italian occupation of Croatia. The Balkan ferment accounts for the visit of Herr Lizst. It is also reported that the Germans have lost faith in Italian ability to hold down the Balkans and are considering the employment of Bulgarians. It is reported that ever-growing fooa difficulties are occurring in Czechoslovakia. Even regular rations are frequently unprocurable. Housewives cause violent scenes daily in front of the supply office. —U.P.A.
