GENERAL DENTZ HELD
INTERNED BY BRITISH REPRISAL FOR BAD FAITH London. Aug. 8. It i.s officially announced in Beirut that the Vichy High Commissioner in Syria, General Dentz, and 35 Vichy officers have been interned because 75 British and Indian officers who were captured in the Syrian campaign arc still unaccounted lor. France has demanded the liberation of General Dentz. It is believed that Vichy pilots flew the officers unaccounted for to Greece and handed them over to the Germans. It i.s reported that even while General Dentz was initialling the terms of the Syrian armistice, Allied prisoners were being taken to Axis territories. They are understood to have included officers from _ the Royal FusiJiers captured at El Kunitra. Despite Vichy’s bad faith, repatriation of the Vichyites is proceeding. Several thousand have left since the detention of General Dentz. --U.P.A.
