ESCAPE FROM DROWNING
BOY IN AUCKLAND HARBOUR (Press Assn.) Auckland, Aug. 10. An escape from drowning was experienced by Norman Blenkin, a schoolboy, aged 14, when he was knocked unconscious into the harbour this afternoon. The boy, in company with another lad, was playing on the Orakei wharf. He was apparently struck on the face by a winch and forced into the water. Fortunately his plight was observed from the shore by Miss B. Stairmand, who dived fully clothed to his rescue. When she reached the lad he was floating unconscious under the water, bleeding profusely from a gash or this face. Miss Stairmand managed to hold him until help arrived. He was sent to hospital but his condition is not serious.
