THEFT OF PIG

• TWO MEN BEFORE COURT DKI NKEN ESCAPADE For stealing a pig on August 6, valued at 355, the property of the Beacon Bacon Co.. Ltd., Victor Gordon Orr and Alfred Arne Id James Gcodgame appeared before the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Messrs P. Lewis and J. P? Laird, J.P.’s, presided. Orr was convicted and lined £5, in default one month’s imprisonment, while Goodganu* was ordered to come up for sentence within 12 months if called upon. Restitution of the value ot the pig was ordered. Senior-Sergeant F. Culloty appeared for the police and Mr. C. F. Treadwell for the defence. Senior-Sergeant Culloty said that Orr and Goodgame had a few drinks in town after work on August 6. They took some beer home and had tea together. Goodgame suggested getting a pig from a piggery near by. They took an axe with them, and Goodgame hit a pig over the head, killing it They then took the pig home to Cumbrae Place. The hindquarters were removed, but the remainder was recovered by the police. Orr had been in trouble previously. Mr. Treadwell said it was a drunken escapade on the part of the accused. He contended that the matter could be met by a fine, or to come up foi sentence when called upon. Accused had been willing to make restitution. They were also well thought of by their employers.
