FEARS BRITISH LANDING
GERMANS DIG IN ON EUROPEAN COAST (Recd. 9.40 p.m.) New York, Aug. 9. Germany is building barracks in Italy to accommodate an army of occupation of 300,000 to resist attempted British landings and take control of the country in the event of riots against Fascism, reports the HeraldTribune’s Washington correspondent. This confirms information brought by travellers from Europe that British landings would be welcomed by the populations, anywhere on the European coast. The Germans are well aware of this, so are digging in everywhere.—U.P.A.
