For Ihe next two months, he said,] private motorists would be allowed; three coupons, numbered five, six and j seven. Instructions would also be is- 1 sued Tor a review of all petrol licences ; with a view to making a big reduc- ' lion in consumption. The reduction ; is 25 per cent. “Although I am not at liberty to j give the full reasons for the action | taken, the people of New Zealand may rest assured that the Government has considered all possible alternatives, but has no option but to take the action mentioned. 1 would ask all consumers of oil fuel to accept these reductions in the knowledge that by doing so they are materially helping not only New Zealand but the whole Empire in the war effort.”
