WATCHED BY KING AND QUEEN

MOCK BATTLE IN SOUTH OF ENGLAND (Recd. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, July 30. King George and Queen Elizabeth on Wednesday watched a mock battle in the south of England in which armoured divisions took part. Their Majesties saw British soldiers dive fully dressed into a canal, swim across and attack the “enemy” on the opposite bank. The Royal Engineers followed and in eight minutes they had thrown two span bridges across the canal. Anti-tank guns and Bren gun carriers dashed over the bridge, and Their Majesties then saw the battle which ensued between the heavy and light tanks of attackers and defenders. Their Majesties spent over six hours watching the manoeuvres.— 8.0.W.
