SCHOOL PATROLS
APPOINTMENT IN WANGANUI
As an important part of the Child Safety Educational Service, begun in Wanganui yesterday by the Automobile Association (Wanganui), school roa'tl patrols are to be appointed. The association plans to visit schools in Wanganui education district twice a year to give lectures, patrols from Wanganui, Taihape and Feilding undertaking this work. The children will be taught road safety precautions and will be expected to obey the instructions of the school patrols. Temporary crossings will be made for the use of school pupils, these being marked by single white lines and 'hey will be gazetted as such under the traffic regulations. Motorists will therefore be required to stop at these crossings while they are in use by school children. So far these crossings have not been defined in Wanganui, but the local authorities responsible will do the work shortly. Where there arc pedestrian crossings oulside schools the special school crossings will not be required.
A booklet has been prepared by th" Automobile Association, and will be distributed to all patrols.
