MARTON AIRMAN-PILOT KILLED
EFFORT TO USE PARACHUTE EQUIPMENT APPARENTLY FOULED THE PLANE FOUND BADLY JOHN (Pless Assn.) Wellington, July 21). An airman-pilot under naming was killed instantly near Blenheim this afternoon when he attempted to leave the trainer aircraft, of which he was the sole occupant, by parachute. He was Leading-Aircraftman Morris Desmond Jurgens. His next-of-kin, his father, is Mr. H. W. F. Jurgens, of 46 Crofton Road, Marton.
Leading-Aircraftman Jurgens took off on a flight from lire R.N.Z.A.F. station at Wooqbourne to carry ou. training exercises. In the course of the flight he apparently attempted to leave tile aircraft by parachute. The evidence indicates that the parachute Omaka River, where the body war found with the parachute badly torn.
The accident occurred near thi Omaka River, wheer the body wa. recovered, in the riverbed, approximately one mile south-west of Coul ter’s Hill and six miles west of Woodbourne. The aircraft was complete!;, wrecked but did not catch lire. Tin cause of the airman's leaving the aircraft is not known. A Court of inquiry will be held.
