LIFE MEMBERSHIP

WELL-DESERVED HONOUR. A well-deserved honour was conferred by the Dunedin Jockey Club’s committee by electing Mr. J. A. Cook a life member as an appreciation of his long and very valuable services to the club and to racing generally. Mr. Cook has long been recognised as a sportsman of the highest possible standard, and the association of such a man greatly helps to keep the sport on the highest plane. He won the New Zealand Cup in 1890 with Wolverine, and horses he was instrumental in importing from Australia included Red Gauntlet, who won the Jockey Club Handicap in 1903, deadheated with Savoury in 1904, and won again in 1906, Ayrale, Fingal, Blackstone, and Crichton. Mr. Cook also raced Ailsa. the winner of the first Telegraph Hadicap run at Trentham.
