FINANCE MINISTER ARRESTED
PUTSCH FOILED IN BOLIVIA GERMAN IN IKIGI E NIPPED IN THE BI D (Reed. 9 p.m.) Lapaz, Bolivia, July 21. The former Finance Minister, Victor Paz Estenssaro. has been arrested at Tarija, ill the heart of the Bolivian oilfields, in connection with an abortive Nazi putsch, which last night threw tlie country into a state ol siege. hhe police have also arrested four civilian members of the Nationalists’ Revolutionary Movement, led by yMajor Elias Belmonte, a Bolivian military attache in Berlin, and a German and former manager of the Lloyd Aereo Boliviano, named Sehroth.
Four newspapers, two of which were included in Washington's black list, were suspended. The proclamation of a state of siege has automatically dissolved the Nationalist Revolutionary Movement, which the Government describes as a small party formed with the connivance of German residents in Lapaz. The President, Enrique Penaranda, who has taken personal control, is
cleaning up the situation. He advocates full co-operation with the United States in the defence of ims hemisphere.—U.P.A.
