TWO POSITIVE CASES OF MENINGITIS
NORTHERN MILITARY CAMPS BELIEVED TO BE ISOLATED OCCURRENCES (Press Assn.) Auckland, July 20. Diagnosis of the two suspected cases of meningitis, one from the Rotorua military camp and the second from Ngaruawahia camp, has shown that each case was positive. The two men are stated to be progressing favourably. The case from Rotorua was admitted to the Rotorua Hospital on Friday, and that from Ngaruawahia to the Waikato Hospital on Thursday, following placing of a man on leave and visitors to Ngaruawahia camp. A similar ban has been enforced on the camp at Rotorua. The official view is that the cases are isolated ones and that their occurrence in military camps is not in any way a reflection on military control. Nevertheless, full precautions are being taken by the army author!-
ties. . . . “No recurrence is anticipated, said Brigadier P. H. Bell, D. 5.0., officer commanding the Northern Military District. “All contacts will be kept in isolation for the required period, when, after an examination it has been shown that there is definitely no infection, they will be released from isolation. “Until this has been done the restrictions must be maintained. ’
