DISTINGUISHED TAIHAPE SCHOLAR

WARRANT-OFFICER E. H. McCOR.MICK (O.C.i Taihape, July 19. Warrant-Officer E. H. McCormick, who was recently appointed assistantofficial archivist, N.Z.E.F., is one of Taihape’s most distinguished scholars. He is a son of Mr. W. J. H. McCormick, of Taihape, who was one of the first four settlers to arrive in Taihape. Warrant-Officer McCormick holds the degrees of Master of Arts and Master of Literature. He received his primary education at the Taihape District High School, where he gained a scholarship, and then proceeded to Wellington College, where he matriculated. He graduated at Victoria University College, gaining his M.A. and also a post-graduate scholarship entitling him to tuition at Cambridge University.

Before going overseas he was engaged in school teaching at Nelson for a year or two. He also taught at Wellesley College, Wellington. While at Clare College, Cambridge University, he gained the degree of Master of Literature.

On his return to New Zealand he was engaged in journalistic work and was the editor of Centennial Publications. He was the author of a book entitled "Letters and Art in New Zealand.” He went to the Middle East with a reinforcement several months ago.
