There is only £40,000 to come in to reach the total aimed at in the £1,000,000 the All Purposes patriotic appeal, stated Major J. Abel, honorary organ iser, to-night. Tre provincial totals are; £ Wellington - 250,700 Auckland - -- 221,000 Canterbury 118,000 Otago - -- 104,000 Taranaki - 70,000 Ilawkds Bay - 54,500 Nelson - 37.500 Southland 35,000 East Coast 27,000 Westland - 23,100 Marlborough . 18,900 Total £960,700 "This is an advance of £42,000 in the last 10 days," states Major Abel. “Of this amount £35,000 is from the Wellington province, mainly from Wanganui's line effort. This was the only major zone known to have more than doubled its quota.” Otago had concluded its Comforts for Fighters appeal and had raised £34,000. It. had now launched a special appeal for its quota of the air raid relief for Great Britain. This was £9300. , The Wellington provincial figures were made up as follows: £ London Appeal 17,000 Metropolitan 103,446 Wanganui 43,085 Wairarapa 29,630 Palmerston North 17,300 Feilding - 12,410 Lovin 11,960 Taumarunui 5,975 Taihape 4,650 Mar.on 3,300 Waimarino 1.944 Total £250,700 Taihape recently held a cattle sale which realised £2300 and appeared well on the way to doubling its quota. Feilding’s house-to-house collection this week realised £7OO. Attention is now focussed on the Auckland metropolitan appeal. He was confident that when this was concluded the £1,000,000 would be far exceeded. tribute to the Carriers’ federation and the Road Transport Alliance for the valuable assistance they have so freely given in connection with the scheme.” The Minister said that arrangements wore already under way' for the establishment of a number of companies.
