‘CUT THE POLITICAL CACKLE”

ELECTION TALK IN AUSTRALIA MR. MENZIES ADVICE TO OPPONENTS Sydney, July 17. The Australian Prime Minister, Mr. R. G. Menzies, repudiated a suggestion in the daily press that the Government is considering holding a general election. “All the talk and fuss about the prospect of an early election is, he added, “coming from the DeputyLeader of the Federal Labour Party, Mr. F. M. Forde, and his colleagues. I am sure the people of Australia would resent another election at this stage. I hope the Labour members who are advocating an election will cut the political cackle and .facilitate the Government’s task of speeding up the war effort. "Mr. Forde's talk about taking over the Broken Hill Company’s industries is trailing a red herring and simply cannot be done.” —U.P.A.
