WANGANUI PHILATELIC SOCIETY
FAREWELL TO PRESIDENT MR. B. A. BESWICK HONOURED Members of the Wanganui Philatelic Society attended a social function in the “Rendezvous” Cafeteria on Wednesday evening in honour of their president. Mr. B. A. Beswick. who has been transferred to Wellington. Mr. J. Currie congratulated Mr. Beswick on his promotion, but was sorry that the society had had to part with one who had shown such keen interest and business ability in all matches pertaining 1o the society during his 15 yearly terms in office as president.
Mr. Currie presented Mr. Beswick with a cheque and a life membership in the society. Messrs. R. A. Sutherland. P. Carmichael, H. J. Sanders and H. G Macneil all spoke in similar eulogistic terms.
Returning thanks. Mr. Beswick said that it had always been a pleasure to him to do what he could to further the cause of the society and was grateful to those officers and members who had helped him in doing this. In reviewing the growth of the society from the initial meeting on May 6. 1921. Mr. Beswick stated that then there were only four members, but to-day the society could claim more than 100. He hoped that the society would continue to grow and prosper and thus retain its place as one of the leading philatelic societies in New Zealand.
During the evening Mr. Currie entertained with a very fine descriptive display of highlights from his collection of New Zealand issues. Pianoforte items by Mrs. Freda Cunningham and songs by Mr. H. JSanders were greatly enjoyed.
