OKOIA BRANCH The first meeting of the financial year was held at the home of Mrs. Leo. Wilson on May 20 with a good atendance, despite a number of apologies received from members who were away on holiday. The meeting opened with the Creed and members stood in silence as a special mark of respect to the late Mrs. W. J. Polson. Posies of bright autumn berries were ■presented to Mrs. O’Donnell as a welcome to the chair and one was for warded to Mrs. W. P. Jones with best wishes and appreciation of her good work as past president and hopes for a speedy recovery of health. I engthy remits for the Provincial Council meeting caused much discussion and delegates were instructed to v< te. Other busines was discussed and more wool has been purchased and distributed among members to be knitted up for soldiers’ sox. Afternoon tea was served and the rm cling closed with a vote of thanks to the chair and also to Mrs. Wilson lor the use of her home. The next meeting will be held at Mis. lan Higgie's home on the third Tuesday in June, when it is to be hoped that there will be a good attendance of members to help the work of their branch. ENGAGEMENT Anderson—Blake. The engageenmt is announced of Mary Joan, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. N. T. Blake, Victoria Avenue, Wanganui, and Alfred Reid, only son of Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Anderson, Auckland.
