WAR READY TO LEAP OCEANS
AMERICA MUST BE READY MR. LA GCARDIA APPEALS TO OPPOSITIONISTS (Recd. 11.30 p.m.) New York, May 29. Mr. R. P, Patterson, United States Under-Secretary for War, told the underwriters at a dinner: “The war is spreading and is ready to leap the oceans and engulf America. We cannot permit defence preparations to be hindered by anyone.” The Mayor of New York, Mr. Fiorella La Guardia, in his first speech as Director of Civilian Defences, appealed to those disagreeing with Mr. R-oosevelt's policy to do nothing anl sty nothing which would give comfort to a potential enemy, as everything Americans said was immediately cabled to Germany-.—U.P.A.
