WAITOTARA QUEEN CARNIVAL

COMMITTEES SET UP CANVASS FOR DONATIONS OF CASH AND STOCK A full attendance of the Waitotara All Purposes Patriotic Committee, presided over by Mr. I. D. Blackie, was held on Wednesday last. Correspondence from the controlling committee of the Army Queen contest was received and discussed. It was resolved that a, district house-to-house canvass be made, commencing on Monday, for cash donations, or stock. The following canvassers were appointed: Messrs. K. Pedersen and S. B. Wilson, T. E. Wilson, A. A. Verry, H. J. Wilson, F. J. Hopkinson, H. J. Olsen, J. J, Armstrong, W A. Hurley, I. D. Parsons, and T. Tarawene.

It was resolved that the chairman convene a meeting of ladies, with the object of forming a Waitotara Queen Carnival Committee.

A well attended public meeting of the Waitotara ladies, convened by Mr. I. D. Blackie, with the object of forming a Ladies’ Queen Carnival Committee, was held on Thursday afternoon, May 22. The following committee waj appointed: Mesdames A. A. Verry (chair), E. Parsons, F. Train, H. J. Wilson, I. D. Blackie, W. Dobie, C. D. Handley, J. Laird, W. A. Hurley, C. V. Pearce, I. D. Parsons, J. G. Verry, Misses M Armstrong and D. Blackie (secretary).

It was decided that a shop day be held on Thursday, June 12, and the various stallholders were appointed. A series of flag “500” evenings were arranged, to begin on Thursday next.
