FRENCH MOROCCO

GERMAN PENETRATION DIRECTED BY COMMISSION ARRIVALS CONTINUE (Recd. 11 p.m.) Rugby, May 22. German penetration into French Morocco continues, apparently under the general direction of a German commission established there. This operates throughout the country in sections, one for naval and one for military control, and others covering industrial and economic matters. It is noteworthy that a majority of personnel is composed of military officers who appear to suffer from no lack of cars, petrol, or money. Meanwhile, there is a fairly constant infiltration of “tourists,” who have already succeeded in exercising a certain amount of authority.—B.O.W. I FRANCE IN AFRICA | ATTEMPT AT RESTORATION London. May 22. Suggestions have been made in broadcasts from Germany and Hungary that Vichy is preparing to recover the possessions occupied by Free French forces and a message from Zeesen suggests that the time has come for re-est.'.blishing the unity of the French Empire's power in Africa. News from Morocco to-day makes it clear that the Germans intend to play a large part in an attempt to re-establish the so-called unity of the French Empire by using the notorious “tourist method" of infiltration.
