ON AWAPUNI TRACKS

LEVIN PREPARATIONS Palmerston N., May 23. I With the Foxton meeting at the end of the week and Wanganui next week it was expected that there would be plenty of jumping at Awapuni yesterday. With the ’chasers out of it interest ' was centred in the horses which are to race at Levin. Last Acre (C. A. IBowry), Pitmark (H. P. Stewart) and Tau-uru (S. Waddell) galloped seven i and they were in line and going • eas:(z at the finish after running the ’ full distance in 1.37 3-5. The last three i took them 42 3-ssec. and Last Acre 1 appeared to be doing best. ' Courting (J. Bowness) galloped attractively over seven, being picked up by Caution (D. W. Redstone) near the five. They ran the last five in 1.8 2-5 and Courting took 1.36 2-5 for ! the seven. i Aurora's Star (W. J. Broughton) i had Gaelic Song (G. R. Tattersail) as ’ a companion over seven oil the plough [ and she was going nicely at the finish i to record 1-35 2-5. ' Sweet Anne (Broughton) gave ' Elusary (Tatlersall), Fly-by-Night i (Waddell) and Victoire (Stewart) a 1 couple of lengths start and was with ’ Elusary half a length in front of the others at the end of live run in 1.9. ' I Brazil (F. Buchanan) was just in [ front of Ara (J. K. Searle) at the end of three in 40sec.; Squeers (Brough- | ton) was on the bit during five, i which took 1.11; Ringless ran six, the past five in 1.10; Rangitikei (Searle) land Hokumai (Tattersail) ran five in ,1.9 3-5; Desert Tide (Stewart) was Onot under pressure over four in 56 ' 4 ssec; and Clarion Call (T. Lilley), [ Mantea (J. Pratt) and Foxiana (Redstone) worked over a mile and a-ha!f 1 at a bit better than even time.

Several horses were put over the schooling hurdles, among them being Cuisinier (Miss White) and High Peer (E. Temperton), Henry of Huntingdon (F. Buchanan), Tigreterre (P. Rae) and Corroboree (Miss White). Rcnascor and Master Hector were given useful pace work and so were Quadroon, Selkirk, Ruatiti and Old Bill. Visiting horses included live from H. Dulieu’s stable and Desert Tide from Rotorua. Dulieu’s team consisted of Glenvane, Noble Fox. Lucky Lulu, Ringling and Miss Haliomei. Four more horses were to arrive from New Plymouth during the day. Dulieu will be here until the Wanganui meeting. , Riding engagements for Saturday include:— W. J. Broughton: Salvation, Kriemhild. Sweet Anne, Red Dash. D. W. Redstone; Gay Fox. H. P.
