MAXIMUM SERVICE IN WAR TIME
MR. G. I. JONES’ VIEWS CANDIDATE FOR CITY COUNCIL To render the maximum of service in these critical times: This was quoted by Mr. Garland I. Jones as the motive which actuated him in again offering himself as a candidate for the Wanganui City Council. Stating that he realised the need for leadership by men and women capable and willing, and free from outside domination, Mr. Jones said: “We cannot but be influenced by our own experiences in life, and as these have been varied, surely we are in a position to solicit the continued confidence of the electors in our ability to control municipal and local body affairs. No man can claim to be absolutely independent, for all are dependent in some way, one on the other. “I am not a revolutionist,” concluded Mr. Jones, “and have no intention of trying to upset all present arrangements. Neither am I going to make all sorts of foolish promises, but I offer myself for a further term of service in the interests of the city which we are nil proud to serve.” He said it Vas an honour to be associated witl Mr. E. B. Tustin’s campaign f<? ti t Mayoralty.
