ON HAWERA TRACKS
TUESDAY'S GALLOPS With a large number of visiting horses on the scene for the Egmont meeting this week, there was a fairamount of fast training and jumping performed on the Hawera tracks on Tuesday morning. All fast took place in the centre o' the course proper, with the going heavy, writes Goldspur” in the Hawcra Star. Sea Link (Potroz) beat La Rosita (Toki) by three lengths over half a mile in 51 l-ssec. Sea Link continued on for nearly three rounds and when finally pulled up she was in a distressed condition. Not a good track worker. La Rosita, a three-year-old daughter of Maori Boy , has shown promise in her few callings to date. Grandora (Turu) ran half a mile smartly in 50 4-5. He is a fine galloper and an ideal type of three-year-old, but unfortunately the Oration gelding's wind is affected. After a slow beginning, Du Maurier (Williamson) got to the end of five furlongs in 1.6 4-5. He bears a particularly bright appearance and mar be an early winner. Veldette" (Williamson) occupied 1.0 in a similar effort. Notium (Wiliamson) traversed the last five furlongs of a round in I.S 3-5. He has recovered from the leg ailment that prevented him from racing at Waverley. Miss Te Koura (Maria) and Night Rav (Thomson) were not bustled when getting to the end of five furlongs in 1-6 1-5. Schooling Displays. Bridegroom (A. Jenkins) and Riotous (P. Brady) gave a polished display over four steeplechase fences—a brush, post and rails, sod wall and hencoop. Bridegroom should be all the better for his outing on the flat at Waverley and he promises to take a
lot of beating in the Egmont Steeples, Riotous is still one oi the b°st jump-
ers in commission, but ne jacks pace and appears to be past his prime. Parekura (H. Maria) and Golden Pag (J. Chaplin) schooled safely over two hurdles, though the latter had a "life" at the first. Parekura may be hard to dispose of in his Hawera engagements. Kena was injured on the float en route to Waverley and he may not be able to race this week. Selkirk and Natal are doubtful starters in the Tongahoe Hurdles. Apart from the horses that raced at Waverley among those to do pacework were G. Green's trio Battlegain, Black Majesty and Dozie Boy, Fly-by-Night and Authoress. WITH THE JOCKEYS RIDERS AT HAWERA Riding engagements for the Egmont meeting announced include:— H. Wiggins: Grandora.
