RAETIHI GOLF CLUB
OFFICIAL OPENING. The wet weather at the week-end abated sufficiently to allow the Kakatahi Golf Club to open the season on Sunday last. There was a fair attendance which included a number of visitors from Raetihi. Mrs. A. Phillips (president), performed the opening ceremony. In her remarks she spoke of the difficulties experienced owing to the loss of practically all the young men of the district through enlistments. However, the womenfolk had decided to put their shoulders to the wheel and see that the club did not go into recess. She then called on the club captain (Miss Shirley Wallace) to drive off the first ball. This was done most proficiently. The competition for the day was a four-ball best ball. This was won by Mrs. M. Windle (Raetihi) and Mr. H. Wallace (Kakatahi), with a gross 39 for I he nine holes. The previous high standard sol for the club's afternoon teas was fully maintained. The greens were in excellent order as a result of the efforts of a. working hee composed of five ladies and two men. The greens were a credit to them.
