PATEA NEWS

CRICKET PATEA HAS EASY WIN Patea had no difficulty in accounting for Eltham on the latter's wicket, knocking up 149 in reply to the local team's 74. It is a coincidence that the Patea was the same as that recorded by Eltham when the teams met for the first round. The feature of Elt ham’s innings was the batting of Rush who, hitting out very freely, knocked up 38 not out, one over producing 20 runs. Lewis was given out lbw very early, while Gatley was bowled at 10, no other batsman reaching double figures, while the last three wickets went without a run being added. Patea opened badly, two wickets falling for four, but a stand was made by Gibbs and Bourke, who carried the score to 54 before the latter was run out. Blyde added 27 and Maule played an active innings for 36. which included four fours and two sixers. Garnett was the only other double-figure scorer with 12. Bourke was Patea’s most successful bowler, taking the last three wickets at no cost. Wilson came next in line with three for 16. four of his overs being maidens. With two for 18, Rush secured the best average for Eltham, securing four maiden overs. Lee (two for 24) and Gatley (three for 71) were the other bowlers to show any prominence.
