Hawk Seeks Refuge.
A motorist along the Hamilton-Te Awamutu road noticed two hawks high in the air in front of him engaged in fierce combat, and he stopped his car to watch developments. Soon one bird, getting away from its superior antagonist, swooped out of the combat area straight toward the car, and actually fluttered’ in through an open window to land on the floor beside the driver. The latter put his hand down to eject the unexpected intruder, when the bird suddenly revived and there was a very exciting minute or two. Failing to get rid of the hawk, the i motorist drove in to Te Awamutu. where the bird was found to have suffered a broken wing and a broken leg.
