For the convenience or people wishing to get in touch with the Ail Force Relations Committee, the oliice and receiving depot in the Avenue will be open every day until the conclusion of Air Force Week. Airmen Entertained. During the past week a number ui young airmen home on leave have been visiting Wanganui. I'ne Air i Force Relations Committee have en ; tertained these boys whenever pos- i sible, and those who could not attend i these functions have each received a ; gift. On Wednesday morning a j gathering was held at the Rendezvous, when Messrs. D. L. White, Maxwll, and F. Glasgow, Wanganui, and their parents, were tne guests o± honour. The Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., Mr. W. Morrison, chairman of Waitotara County Council, Mrs S. G. Millen, president of the Air Force Relations, each spoke briefly and extended good wishes to the boys. Later in the week Messrs. Breed and Jones were entertained, each guest being accompanied by his sister. Both functions were of a very happy nature and greatly enjoyed by all present. Sunday School Picnic. On Saturday St. Barnabas' (Durie Hill) and Fordell Anglican SundaySchools held their annual picnic on the property of Mr. F. W. Behrent, No. 2 Line. After lunch served in the shade of pear and elm trees, the children explored the bush. Flat and novelty races for all ages were later run on the flat at the top of the hill, and the apple bobbing drew good entries. Alter tea the vicar called for cheers for the helprs who had given the children such a happy day and for Mr. Behrent for the use of his property and his help. S.P.C.A. Street Appeal. A meting of the committee of the Wanganui branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held in Mr. A. R. Donaldson’s ofI lice, when it was decided to proceed with the preparations for the annual street day appeal to be held on Wednesday. It was felt by members that the effort should not be abandoned because of war as it is at such times that animals suffered most, either through active participation in warfare or through desertion or neglect by owners. The inspector’s report showed that already in Wanganui dogs and other pets had been left when owners had gone into camp. Catering at Makirikiri Sports. The Women's Auxiliary of the Y.M.-Y.W.C.A., as in previous years, was in charge of the refreshment marquee at the Makirikiri sports on Saturday. A large crowd attended the sports and business was brisk. Miss Vera Marshall, secretary of the Y.W.C.A., was in attendance, and those in charge of the tea were Mesdames J. A. Hair, H.
