LICENCE REVOKED
BOXER PENALISED FOR BREACH MANAWATU ASSOCIATION FINED. ( Ter Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Feb. 24. Following an inquiry into the professional boxing contest at Palmerston North on December 26 between Maurice Strickland and the Alabama Kid the New Zealand Boxing Council has’ imposed a £5 fine on the Manawatu Association and censured the association for giving the boxers a guarantee instead of observing the rule which stipulates that the contestants shall divide the purse on a basis of 60 per cent, to the winner and 40 per cent, to the loser. The council also revoked the licence of the Alabama Kid for a breach of his contract with the Manawatu Association. The boxer was represented by a solicitor at the meeting of the council which imposed the penalty.
