OUTING AT RAORIKIA
• ST. JOHN’S CLUB PICNIC ENJOYABLE DAY SPENT Two river boats, a launch, and a bus were required for transporting the large crowd which attended the annual picnic of the St. John's Club, held at Raorikia, 16 miles up the Wanganui River, on Sunday. The club was favoured with perfect weather for its outing, and the picnic was held in an ideal locality. A well organised sports programme provided ample amusement, and bathing in the river was also popular. The boats left Wanganui between 8.45 a.m. and 9.15 a.m., returning shortly before dusk. Milk and hot water were provided free. As in previous years, the club catered very well for the children. Soft drinks, ice creams, and sweets were in plentiful supply. Several parties went to the picnic grounds in private cars, and others cycled out from Wanganui. The bulk of the crowd, however, travelled in the Waione, and a smaller vessel made available for the day.
