WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Monday, February' 24, 4 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone is centred west of the Auckland Peninsula, while a depression is approaching the South Island across the south Tasman Sea.
Forecast.—Winds: Moderate and variable over the northern hall of the North Island. Elsewhere, moderate to strong north-westerlies prevailing and changing to south-westerlies over Southland and Otago alter about 24 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough in Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere, slight to moderate, but with considerable swell south of Kawhia. Eastern Tasman Sea; Winds moderate and variable in the northern portion, with slight or moderate seas; < Isewhere, moderate to strong north-westerlies, changing later to south-westerlies in the southern portion, and rough seas. Weather: Fine east of the main ranges of the North Island. Elsewhere, fair to cloudy at first, but rain developing during the day in Westland and extending, after 24 hours, to Southland and Otago; temperatures mill to w arm. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, reports as follows for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Hours of sunshine, 10 hours S) minutes. Rainfall, nil. Maximum temperature, 70deg. Fahr.; minimum temperature, 52deg. Fahr.
