SCHOOL TAKEN OVER AS HOSPITAL
PROTEST BY BOARD NEW BUILDING AT HAMILTON ( Per Pr«a« J AUCKLAND, Feb. 19. ■‘lt is an absolute scandal, and we should pester the department until •»et satisfaction,” declared Mr. S. B Sims, at an Auckland Education Board meeting when a letter was submitted from the Hamilton Primary Schools' Headmasters’ Association protesting against the commandeering of the Hamilton West School for military purposes. It was stated that provision could be made for soldiers without taking over schools. Mr. Sims said the new school wa.-. standing empty, having been reserved as a hospital for soldiers. "There are tiffl beds in the school awaiting probable patients.” he said. "It is wrong that this should be permitted when there is ample ground at the Waikato Hospital to build an auxiliary hospital, as is being done in other centres.” , _ The chairman, Mr. W J- Campoeb. said the best way would ne to send a telegram to the department. V e always get a reply to a wire.' he added. , , . , Mr Sims said the school had been standing empty since befoie Christmas. While pupils were crowded into the old school. Unless something was done the position would continue indefinitely. The chairmans suggestion adopted.
