MARTON. Master Roderick Dallas, son of Mrs. G. R. Dallis, Marton Junction, underwent an operation in the Wanganui Public Hospital on Thursday. His friends will be pleased to learn that he is progressing satisfactorily. Mr. L. Humphrey, who has been chairman of the Marton Boy Scouts' Committee for a number of years, has resigned. He has been succeeded by Mr. H. L. Grut. Mrs. E. J. Scott, who has been a very efficient honorary secretary for the Marton Boy Scouts’ Citizens’ Committee, has resigned. Mr. H. Y. Cameron has been elected honorary secretary. Mr. E. B. Gordon, M.P. for Rangitikei, visited Hunterville on Thursday and opened St. Andrew’s flower show. He was accompanied by Mrs. Gordon. To-day (Saturday) Mr. Gordon will officially open the new swimming baths at Rangiwahia. Mrs. C. A. Tidy, president, at the committee meeting of the Marton Plunket Society at Marton on Monday, spoke with much feeling of the d< ath of Mrs. P. J. Sladden, who, for more than 20 years, had been president of the branch. The speaker, the see’etary and others, who had long been associated with Mrs. Sladden, spoke of their many happy memories of her, of her deep and unselfish interest in the society's work and of the pleasure of working with her. The meeting stood in silence. WAVERLEY Mr. and Mrs. J. Coutts have returned to Waverley from a tour of the north. Mr. and Mrs. I. Henderson, Waipukurau, are visiting Waverley as the guests of Mr. ana Mrs. C. J. Dickie, "Hayes.” Mrs. Neville and Miss Joan Neville, Palmerston North, are spending a holiday at Waverley as the guests of Mrs. H. P. Metcalfe. Miss Eva Castle, who was spending several weeks' holiday at New Plymouth, has returned home, Mrs. R. S. Clarke was a recent visitor to Hawera as the guest of Mrs. Clarke.
Mrs. R. Hammond and her twin I sons are at present in lhe Karitane Home, Wanganui. Waverley visitors to Wanganui for the Thompson—Taylor wedaing last Saturday evening, included: Mr. and [Mrs. G. The following members of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles left Waverley on Wednesday for camp at Foxton, where they will undergo a course of three months’ training:— Captain H. Stewart, Lieut. W. Hartwell (who has been granted the temporary rank of major), Troopers Maurice Wilson, Lewis Thorburn, Earle Sandiford Eric McConachy, R. H. De Rose. W. Wereta. Sergeant D. C. Waldie is also in camp. During the absence of Mr. L. Thorburn, who has gone into camp, Mrs. Webster is relieving at the local post office. Mrs. E. A. Lee, Hastings, is the guest of Mrs. C. Hodgetts. Mrs. A. Brewer (Wellington), Mrs Crocker (Hawera) and Miss Malone (Auckland) have been the guests of Mrs. W. R. S. Brewer, "Waihau.” TAIHAPE Miss K. Whitcombe, who has been the guest of Mrs. A. P. Batley (Moaivtango), left for her home in New Plymouth this morning. Rev. L. R. Gilmore. Methodist min■ster at Taihape, has passed the probationers’ examination with honours. Mr. H. Darvill has passed in two subjects for the B.A. degree. Archdeacon T. J. Smith and Mrs. Smith (Nelson), who have been the guests of Sergeant A. Barnes and Mrs. Barnes, left on Thursday night by the Limited express for Hamilton. Mrs. Chas. E. Darvill left on Thursday morning for Lower Hutt to attend the funeral of her sister, the late Mrs. Bessie Butters. PATEA. Mrs. A. Smiles and Master David Smiles are visiting Hawke’s Bay. Misses Tess Cunningham, Iris Quickenden, Joyce Smith, Mollie Winchester and Jacqueline Hurley left this week for Wanganui, where they will attend the Sacred Heart Convent.
Miss K. Rook is on a visit to Auckland. Miss Theo Young will be a Hawera visitor to Patea during the week-nd. BILLS Mr. Raymond Smith has gone to Tokaanu fot the trout fishing season. Mrs. W. H. Stevens, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. J. Johnstone, Hunterville, has returned home. Mesdames H. Flower and G. G. Goebel spent a few days in Feilding attending the wedding of Private Fred Howard, who in in training at Ngaruivahia Military Camp. Driver E. W. Wilson, of Trentham Military Camp, visited his parents. Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Wilson, this week. Mrs. E. V. Wilson has gone to Wellington for a shot-. holiday. Miss M. Webber has returned home after spending a few weeks with relatives in Dapnevirke. Mrs T. Rogers, of Parewanui, who underwent a major operation in Wanganui Hospital recently, is reported to be progressing favourably. Other Bulls residents, Mrs. R. T. Young and Miss E. Richards, are progressing well n trie same institution. Mrs. J. Johnstone has returned from Auckland, and Flight-Lieut. Johnstone's mother, of Auckland, is staying with Mrs. J. Johnstone at present. Messrs. A. W. Amon and J. E. Walker have been spending a few lays in Wellington, where they took cart in the inter-centre bowling tournament, being beaten by a single coint by an erstwhile Bulls resident, Hr. Lynn McKeivie. Mr. J. Campion, who has been an
inmate of a I'almerston North private hospital, is now progressing well at home.
