NAVY’S APPRECIATION

PARCELS FROM WANGANUI WOMEN’S WORK PRAISED Keen appreciation of the gift parcels sent by the Wanganui vVomen's Auxiliary of the Navy League to the mine-sweeper in which he was serving, was expressed by Lieut. H W. Larsen, R.N.V.R., son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Larsen, Wanganui, writing on behalf of the crew. The parcels arrived in Great Britain toward the end of last year. “Unfortunately, X nave left the ship, so will be unable to share the Christmas cheer your generous labours have provided,” wrote Lieutenant Larsen in a letter to the Wanganui Women’s Auxiliary of the Navy League. “This is a very big disappointment to me personally, but cannot be helped. I do know, however, how much the men will appreciate these comforts, even though 1 will not be with them at the time.

“They are good, hardy men, most of them from Grimsby—a typical trawler ‘gang.’ But they are rotten scribes and 1 am doubtful whether all will write to you as they should. Try to forgive them if they lail here, and believe me when I say 1 know them to be highly appreciative.”

Lieutenant Larsen added that so far the vessel had received from the Wanganui -women lUlbs of butter and 61bs of honey. He haa also received advice of the arrival in Great. Britain of two further cases of comforts, and had arranged for their delivery to the ships.
