WANGANUI PRESBYTERY
MEETING AT MARTON COMMITTEES APPOINTED The Revs. A. \V. Baxter (Apiti) and R. Crocket (Bulls), who have been recently inducted into their charges, were welcomed at a meeting of the Wanganui Presbytery at Marton. The moderatoi, the Rev A. C. McLean, Wanganui, presided. The moderator welcomed Mr. J. Andrew, the newly-appointed missionary to Mangaweka-Rewa. Mr. Major was received as an elder from Turakina. Sympathy was expressed with, the relatives of the late Rev. B. Hutson and Mr. J. Lambert, of Hunterville, who in the past had been members of the Presbytery. It was decided to send a letter to Mr. J. Campion, Bulls, who was unable to attend on account of illness. A plan for the visitation by Prestytcry of congregations was adopted. Tne following are to be visited during this year: St. Andrew's, Wanganui; St Paul's. Feilding; Fordell; Manawatu Sc nth, Palmerston North Outfir.es
The following committees for the year v ere set up with th fir respective conveners: Wanganui Youth Committee, Rev. A. A. Brash; Palmerston North Youth Committee, Rev. R. Warnock; life and work, Rev. G. W. T. Hercus; students, Rev. J. Hubbard, property and finance, Rev. A. C. McLean; statistics, Rev. A. H. Norrie; representative to the P.S.S.A., Mr. Grant. The Missions Committee wrote advising that the following new appointments to home mission stations within the bounds had been made as from February: Rev. W. Hetherington, Ohakune-Raetihi; J. Andrew, Mangaweka-Rewa. A discussion took place on. the question of helping congregations to provide the quota for the missions budget. It was decided to ask congregational treasurers to report by March 15 to the clerk as to what was being done by the Management Committee to meet the budget assessment. A committee consisting of the moderator, clerk and Rev. A. A. Brash was appointed to prepare for next meeting a plan of pulpit exchanges to foster the interest in missions. It was decided to hold the retreat for study and fellowship as usual this year. The Life and Work Committee were asked to arrange this in consultation with representatives of the Presbytery of Taranaki. The Rev. A. A. Brash reported the special measures passed at the assembly relating to the forming of groups for lay preachers and adult study and also for the furthering of religious instruction in schools. The youth committee was asked to prepare a list of lay preachers for next meeting. The meeting closed with a period of intercession led by the Revs. L. K. Brown and A. A. Brash.
