MARTON. Reference to :he fatal accident which befell Mr. R. Rivers was made by the chairman, Mr. J. F. R. Wallace, at Tuesday night's meeting of the Marton District High School Committee. A motion placing on recorc [the committee’s appreciation of the sterling qualities of Mr. Rivers and the good work hr had put in wnile a member of the committee, was carr.'eo in silence. The resignation of Miss V. J. Wilkinson, secondary assistant at the Marton District High School, came .before the committee at Tuesday right’s meeting. Miss Wilkinson extended thanks to the committee for the consideration with which she had been treated during her association with the school. The chairman (Mr. J. F. R. Wallace) said Miss Wilkinson had been a member of the school staff for eight years. The committee decided to send her a letter wishing her success in her new duties and congratulating her on her excellent work. Miss Wilkinson has accepted a position at the Cambridge District High School. Mrs. F. T. Harper. High Street, Marton, is at present in hospital having undergone an operation on Monday. TAIHAPE Mr. L. E. Lyons, accountant at the Bank of New Zealand, has been transferred to Opotiki owing to the state of his health. Mr. Lyons is president of the Taihape Tennis Club and a past president of the Taihape and District Returned Soldiers’ Association. He will be succeeded at Taihape by Mr. L. D. Luff, accountant at Opotiki. During the nine years he has been in Taihape Mr. Lyons has made many friends and will be greaely missed. Mr. S. G. Smith, liaison officer of the Employment Division, National Service Department, who addressed a meeting at Taihape on Tuesday evening, left by the Limited express yesterday morning for Wanganui. He was Minister of Education a few years ago. Mr. J. W. Wylie leaves Taihape today for the military camp at Trentham, where he will be attached to the New Zealand Dental Corp with the rank of first lieutenant. Mr. Wylie is vice-president of thq Caihape Golf Club and a member of the Taihape School Committee.
