PLACEMENT OFFICERS
THEY ARE DOING GOOD WORK TRIBUTES AT TAIHAPE At a meeting of farmers at Taihape, called to discuss the farm labovt problem, Mr. S. G.' Smith, liaison officer, National Service Department (Employment Division) said that placement officers at Taihape had done well in placing men in jobs, and had every reason to feel satisfied with their work, At one time there were 138 men in the Taihape district on Scheme 13, but ■it had now practically vanished. Out of 504 men registering at Taihap during the past 12 months as unemployed, during the last complete 12 months the local officers had plawl 482 men in jobs. This was highly satisfactory and he hoped that farmers would use the Placement Ollie more and co-operate more wilh the department. Mr. Smith mentioned the case oi j man who was earning £36 net a month share-milking. Another man earned £6 a week and found, but wa* going to give up the job because there were too many cows to milk. "I say that, in time of war, that man should not be allowed to give up the job,” said Mr. Smith. (Own Correspondent).
