RAILCAR SERVICE
PATRONAGE DECLINING REPORT TO BE OBTAINED In view of statements at a meeting that the patronage lately had not been very good, the Stratford Chamber of Commerce will ask the Railway Department for a report on patronage of the daily rail-car service between New Plymouth and Wellington and urge that the department advertise the service more.
“Taranaki might lose the daily service if the patronage does not improve,” said Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., who based his view on his observations as a frequent user of the service. He pointed out that the daily service was only on trial, ff the Railway Department considered the patronage was not sufficient it would cut out the daily service. Many people, it was stated, thou )• jit the rail-car fares were higher than the ordinary ones, whereas they were the same.
