REGENT THEATRE
“THE RETURN OF DR. X” AND “PUBLIC COWBOY NO. 1.” People found murdered and sapped of their blood; a beautiful actress found dead with a knife wound only to show up on the morrow alive and animated; the discovery of a syntheticblood which can bring humans back to life; a reincarnated killer who must kill again in order to maintain the spark of life in his own body. Of such elements is Warner Brothers’ thriller “The Return of Dr. X,” a featre attraction of the double bill at the Regent Theatre. Humphrey Bogart, an accomplished gangster and racketeer in many- a picture, has one of his most difficult roles in this film. No more fitting title could be chosen for Gene Autry's current Republic vehicle than “Public Cowboy No. 1.” This picture, also showing at the Regent Theatre, presents Gene as an ultra-modern cowboy who uses streamlined technique in detecting and apprehending modern cattle rustlers. Mere horseflesh has to contend with aeroplanes and high-powered tefrigerator trucks in the cattle war, but it's not difficult to guess which emerges the victor, even before one sits through an hour of absorbing and highly dramatic entertainment.
