FRESH WARNING

INVASION DANGER “VERY REAL AND SERIOUS” Received Feb. 8, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 7. A new invasion warning was uttered to-night, this time by LieutenantGeneral Eastwood, Director-General of Britain's Home Guard. In a broadcast to-night to his men he said that the threat of invasion was very real and very serious, but it would be overcome. There was no shadow of doubt about that. He emphasised that by knowing every road, path, and track, and by cultivating the art of seeing without being seen —by knowing the district like the back of his hand—the Home Guard would enjoy a tremendous advantage. In a stirring appeal to his army of nearly 2,000,000 Home Guards, General Eastwood said: “Having found an enemy, he must be allowed to rest until either he surrenders or is killed. If a Home Guard is manning a post, a road block, or a factory, he must hold it to the last and so delay lhe enemy as long as possible.”

General Eastwood said that in an extended tour of the British Isles he had been most impressed by the intense keenness of everyone. He appealed to the women of Britain to encourage their men in preparing to meet every possibility. Addressing mothers, wives, and sweethearts, he declared: “You have been greatly self-sacrificing in the months that have gone by. Go on being so, because the safety of those you love and of yourselves, too, may easily depend on bow well the Home Guard knows its job."
