SOS CALLS PICKED UP BY .MACKAY RADIO NEW YORK, Feb. 7. The Mackay radio has announced that it is discontinuing relaying S.O.S. calls to the Press because, “under certain circumstances it might be considered unneutral.” Similar companies have previously discontinued the practice. Naval officials in Ottawa applauded the decision, pointing out that in many cases shipping was endangered by information thus leaking out. It is recaled that the liner Empress of Australia was reported to have sent out an S.O.S. when actually she was safe in port.
