WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, February 7, 4 p.m. General Situation.—An almost stationary anti-cyclone is centred over New Zealand, while a tropical cyclone is moving slowly southwards off the New South Wales coast. Forecast.—Winds: North-easterlies prevailing. Force strong at times in the far north and on parts of the east coast; otherwise light or moderate. Seas: Rising north of the East Cape, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to fresh north-easterly winds, sea moderate, but considerable swell developing. Weather: Scattered drizzle in northern parts of the Auckland Peninsula; elsewhere fine, but with morning low cloud in eastern districts; rising temperatures. Except in the Auckland province, there are prospects of two days’ settled weather. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, reports as follows for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Hours of sunshine, 12 hours 20 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Maximum temperature, 76deg. Fahr.; minimum temperature, 50deg. Fahr. Phases of the Moon for February.—First Quarter, February 4; Full Moon, February 12; Last Quarter, February 19; New Moon, February 26.
