FOUR EVACUATIONS
WESTMINSTER SCHOOL FAMOUS LIBRARY DAMAGED. LONDON, Jan. 6. Londoners have missed from the streets the familiar sight of the bays of Westminster School in their top hats and morning coats. The school was first evacuated to Lancing, then returned; and is now in the neighbourhood of Bromyard in Herefordshire. The school has had four evacuations and made six moves since September, 1938. The latest number of The Elizabethan, the school magazine, reveals seme of the air raid damage suffered by the school. It says that the famous Busby Library was partly destroyed by a bomb several weeks ago, bupt a number of the priceless books were saved and the rest of the school buildings were practically undamaged. It is also announced in The Elizabethan that the headmaster’s secretary, Miss Mecey, was killed in a recent raid.
Bombs have fallen on the choir school in Barton Street, and a fire bomb fell on the doorstep of the Master of the King’s Scholars. In Herefordshire the school is living in various country houses, and the Master reigns over College from the magnificent oak room which once formed part of the old Bishop's Palace.
