BRITISH SUBMARINE CASUALTIES

SWORDFISH AND TRITON AWARDS TO CREW OF THE THUNDERBOLT LONDON, Feb. 5. The Admiralty announced that casualties on the submarines Swordfish on December 23 were five officers and 36 ratings missing and on the Triton on January 29 five officers and 50 ratings missing. The Distinguished Service Order, the Distinguished Service Cross, am five Distinguished Service Medals have been awarded to the crew of the British submarine Thunderbolt—originally the Thetis, which sank in Liverpool Ba.v in 1939 during a trial dive and was raised about three months later —“for courage, skill and seamanship in destroying an Italian submarine.”
