SUPPLY OF BENZINE
LETTER TO RANGITIKEI COUNCIL FLATTER AGAIN DEBATED A letter from Captain A. W. Larsen, 'staff officer of the Home Guard, was leceived at. the monthly meeting of the Rangitikei County Council, regarding the supply of benzine for Home Guard instructors travelling to country areas, stating that his office fully appreciates the viewpoint of th” council, and in point of fact the Home Guard committees operating in all sub area centres have already been advised by their office that the responsibility in regard to benzine supplies rests with them. The Wangaehu, Turakina, Ratana, and Turakina Valley units are attached to the Wanganui Home Guard Battalion. As far as these places are concerned we have already had to supply quite a number ot instructors to enable these runts to proceed with their training. The records show that 323 miles have been covered by instructors in your county to date. Cr. Smith, at a meeting at Turangarere, stated that, permits would be granted to units travelling to Taihape for parades but no free benzine. Benzine, however, would be supplied to staff instructors. It was pointed out that Hunterville and Taihape committees were not properly constituted as the Rangitikei Council was not repr-senled on those committees. The chairman stated that the Feilding committee had decided that local committees should have the authority to issue benzine. It was unanimously decided that the Rangitikei Council will give very favourable consideration to the request for payment of share of cost of benzine for instructors for the Home Guard in the Rangitikei County but desires that the whole matter be put on a sound working basis. The chairman was authorised to write to all local committees on the constitution of their committees.
